Urgent Student Incident Reporting

The safety of our students is one of our highest priorities at BookNook. We require all BookNook staff and tutors, regardless of the state in which they are currently working, to immediately report student-involved incidents. We must work in partnership with all stakeholders to ensure we meet our mandatory obligations and ensure the safety of our students.

  • Suspected Child Abuse or Neglect - All of our BookNook Online Tutors, including third-party contracted tutors, are mandated reporters because they interact with school partners and directly with students. The tutor is required to immediately (within 24 hours) complete a Student Incident report on this site. You may find more details on the full BNT Mandated Reporter Policy.

A mandated reporter is a person who, because of his/her/their profession, is legally required to report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect (physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, suicide ideation/planning, and/or homicidal ideation/planning) to the relevant authorities. When reporting abuse or neglect, tutors must remember a report is not an accusation, but a request to appropriate agencies to investigate whether neglect or abuse has taken place.

  • Student Behavior Incident - If a tutor witnesses (or hears about) any other student behavior issues that are not related to abuse/neglect or gender identity/sexual orientation, we still believe a report is necessary. This may include a report of bullying or other session distractions. Tutors should still fill out an online report on this site which provides BookNook with the information to take the correct actions to be initiated with the appropriate school and/or district personnel.

Remember: it is a privilege to serve our students, and it is our responsibility to keep our students safe.
