      Be A Mentor Background Check Instructions

      Be A Mentor a BookNook clearinghouse partner

      Click on the link for the option that best describes you: 

      Instructions for California Residents

      (Remember to use the same email address you used to apply to BookNook when completing the registration form below, or it may delay your clearance timing)
      • Complete the in-state resident application to register with Be A Mentor. You will receive an email from Be A Mentor that provides you with a link to your account dashboard.
      • Access your Be A Mentor Dashboard. Once you are in your account dashboard, navigate to the "My Requirements" on the left side of the screen. Click into the "Fingerprint" section to obtain the following:
        • Location finder for a Live Scan provider 
        • Your Live Scan form
        • Payment flier to cover the cost of your Live Scan appointment.
        • Attend your Live Scan appointment.  Bring with you the following: 
          • Completed Live Scan form
          • Payment filer
          • Government-issued photo ID
        • Wait + Track: After your appointment, the average clearance duration can take up to two weeks. The Background Checks tab of your Tutor Portal profile page will be updated once we receive your clearance from Be A Mentor.

        Instructions for Non-California Residents 

        (Remember to use the same email address you used to apply to BookNook when completing the registration form below, or it may delay your clearance timing)

        Please note: You will receive a link to log in to your Be A Mentor dashboard. There will not be any relevant information in your account until your clearance has been received.

        Instead, follow the instructions below: 

        • Find a fingerprinting company/local law enforcement office that will print your fingerprints on a FD-258 fingerprint card (they will have the cards available at their office to purchase - and we will reimburse you for the cost).  PLEASE HAVE PRINTS PRINTED ON TWO CARDS.
        • Complete the following information on both fingerprint cards. 
        • Mail both fingerprint cards to: Be A Mentor, 22693 Hesperian Blvd #170, Hayward, CA 94541. 
        • Submit reimbursement request. If reimbursement is needed for fees incurred at the fingerprint appointment, you can complete a form and upload your receipt here. 
        • Wait + Track - the average clearance duration can take up to 4 weeks after they receive your cards. The Background Checks tab of your Tutor Portal profile page will be updated once we receive your clearance from Be A Mentor.
